Central European Initiative Youth Orchestra |

Created
to deliver the paramount message of cultural
cooperation and European integration,
the CEI YOUTH ORCHESTRA (CEIYO) has become
an important instrument for the personal
and musical growth of its extremely
young components (aged 11-18). Devised
and created in 1998 by the Triestine violinist
and teacher Maestro Igor Coretti-Kuret,
it was subsequently adopted by the Central
European Initiative upon the decision
of the 18 Heads of State and Government
participating in the 2004 CEI Summit. |

Among
its objectives, the Youth Orchestra also
wishes to support the most promising international
concert performers, who are offered the
possibility to perform as soloists. We
are particularly proud to say that some
of the young musicians who were formerly
members of our Orchestra are now playing
with prestigious European orchestras such
as the Orchestra of the Scala di Milano,
the Orchestra of the Münchner Philharmoniker,
the Orchestra of the Hamburg Opera House
and many others. |

and artistic director |

Violinist,
professor and conductor, Igor Coretti-Kuret
is internationally recognized and known
for his great ability to communicate
with the young. His name is tied to
the International symphony orchestra
formed by young musicians between 11
and 18 years of age, which he conceived
and created almost twenty years ago
and which is an example of musical excellence
and intercultural mingling among the
young musicians that he selects from
the Countries of Central Europe. A true
repository of the musical culture that
characterized Central Europe in the
20th century, |
* |
Igor
Coretti-Kuret was born in Trieste, an
important ethnical crossroads of Mitteleuropa.
He started playing the violin at the
age of six and developed his musical
literacy within the Slovenian community
of Trieste and attending the Conservatory
of Ljubljana (then Yugoslavia) for four
years. |
* |
After
obtaining the violin diploma at the
Conservatory of Trieste and having a
brief yet crucial learning experience
with the Italian Youth Orchestra (Orchestra
Giovanile Italiana) and Maestro Riccardo
Muti, Igor Coretti-Kuret travelled to
Hannover, Germany, to improve his skills
with the German violinist Friedrich
von Hausegger (the son of Sigmund von
Hausegger, a very important German musician
who had been the pupil of Adolf Busch,
Georg Kulenkampf and Bram Ederling).
Professor Hausegger immediately recognized
the uncommon qualities of young
Igor, proving his undisputable teaching
abilities and invited him to take part
in the annual meetings of the ESTA,
the European String Teachers Association,
chaired by the famous violinist Yehudi
Menuhin. |
* |
In
1988, on the occasion of the International
congress of ESTA in Manchester, UK, he
was introduced to Max Rostal and Yehudi
Menuhin who decided to offer him their
personal support as well as the institutional
aid of ESTA to sustain the idea that the
young Triestine violinist had presented
to them. In 1989 Maestro Igor Coretti-
Kuret set up the International Summer
School for Young Musicians – dedicated
to all the young musicians of Europe-
in Cividale del Friuli (Northern Italy),
setting thus the basis for the creation
of the youngest International Symphony
Orchestra performing on the European scene:
the CEI Youth Orchestra. All this was
of course made possible thanks to young
Igor’s unshakable faith and stubbornness,
which allowed him to overcome all the
obstacles he encountered down the road.
His efforts and hard work were eventually
crowned with success. A success, which
proved his “vision” right: to create,
in his homeland, an “international music
training field” for the future generations
of orchestra conductors, who shall form
the best orchestras of the vast international
musical scene. In 2007, as the creator
and artistic director of the “inConcerto”
project, he was awarded the Central European
Initiative Medal of Honour. |
